Cheers to the New Year

a confectionary surprise in the form of a “chocolate bomb”

Jennifer Gibeau:

I'll be spending New Year's Eve drinking champagne, eating delicious food and enjoying the company of good friends! My dear friend Lindsey and her husband Christophe, a French pastry chef, are highly esteemed entertaining aficionados in our inner circle, so it’s always such a treat to attend their NYE bash. Last year, I received a confectionary surprise in the form of a “chocolate bomb” with sparkler fuse that I had to crack open with a hammer for an explosion of the yummiest treats. And that’s exactly how I hope to bid adieu to 2014 and ring in the New Year – with a bang!

Lindsey Levy:

While my New Year's Eve has been different from one year to the next, New Year's Day is spent with family. My parents have a tradition, now in it’s 40th year, of getting together with their high school friends for brunch. Each year brings new members as the group continues to grow with children and grandchildren. It's so special that I can share this lovely tradition with my husband and son.

New Year's for us is a family affair! We drive north to a friend’s farmhouse and ring in the New Year with snowmobiling, nighttime tobogganing (the kids’ favourite), skating, bonfires, amazing food and of course, bubbles for the adults! The next morning is a buffet of waffles, bacon, eggs and lots of coffee before we head home. It’s a magical night for kids and adults a

Sarah Richardson:

New Year's Eve for us is all about family. A day full of skiing followed by a multi family dinner feast, with great food, fine wine, lots of laughs, and an appreciation for what is past and what lies ahead for us all.

Tommy Smythe:

I'm not usually a big fan of New Year's Eve, so when my friends invited me to join them in Paris to ring in the New Year, I figured - how bad can it be? Paris is always a good idea, n'est-ce pas? Happy New Year! May your 2015 be filled with adventure!

Lindsay Mens Craig:

New Year’s Eve happens to be my wedding anniversary so I get to spend every New Year’s Eve with my favourite guy!

I’ll be having dinner with my cousin and a few friends. We’re each bringing a course and an accompanying bottle of wine. My course is steak! I’ve purchased the juiciest Porterhouse steak from our local butcher and have a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape that I brought back from a recent trip to France!

I plan on spending New Year's sledding out of town for a few days to a cabin with a bunch of close friends – ice fishing, skating, and playing cards… No reception, no electricity, no running water. Just good friends celebrating with sparklers and champagne!

Every New Year's Day, I like to sit down and write a list of my goals for the New Year, as well as reflect on last year's list. 2014 will be a hard year to top, but my 2015 goals include reading more books for leisure, moving into a new downtown apartment, and learning to cook! The rest of the day is spent with loved ones, relaxing after the party from the evening before.

Ellereigh Rogerson:

My sisters and I have a tradition of spending New Year's Eve with my Uncle Steve (he knows how to celebrate!). He has a spectacular place looking over beautiful English Bay in Vancouver, where I'm from. This year I will be ringing in 2015 here, creating new memories while embracing the many years of our beloved tradition!

This year I'll be spending New Year's Day at the Four Seasons Spa in Toronto. There's nothing better than kicking off the new year with a nice and relaxing little treat.

We spend our holiday in South Florida so it's a fresh seafood feast for dinner followed by fireworks on the beach to celebrate the New Year!

I try and use the holiday season and New Year's as an opportunity to reflect on the past year and inspire myself for the next year to come. What better way to appreciate life and gain perspective, then to immerse yourself in a foreign place and experience their culture, food and attractions. Last year my husband and I rang in the New Year in Machu Picchu, Peru…this year we are off to Hong Kong and Thailand. Bon voyage and happy New Year to all!
