Sarah Richardson Bio

Sarah Richardson has been a key fixture of the Canadian design world since starting out in 1995, working behind the scenes as a prop stylist and set decorator. By the late 90’s, Sarah realized that she could carve a niche in the emerging world of design TV by sharing her practical, endearing and inspiring approach to décor and design with viewers.  Sarah launched her first TV series for HGTV in 2000, Room Service. 15 years later, Sarah is the host, co-creator and co-producer of over 250 episodes of design television that span five hit HGTV series targeted directly to the needs of a contemporary audience.  Room Service, Design Inc., Sarah’s House (as well as Sarah’s Cottage and Sarah’s Rental Cottage), Sarah 101, and Real Potential are a collection of lifestyle television series dedicated to tackling the demands and design challenges of modern living. Her latest series, Sarah Sees Potential premiered in fall of 2015 on HGTV USA.

Known for her upbeat and easygoing approach to creating elegant and timeless designs for every room in the home, Sarah inspires and empowers viewers by effortlessly sharing her winning style formula. Sarah's enthusiasm for all aspects of design is infectious, and her ability to engage and inspire viewers has earned her a loyal and dedicated fan base across North America and around the world. Sarah’s programs are seen in over 100 countries worldwide.

In addition to creating groundbreaking television, her bustling design business, Sarah Richardson Design Inc. (www.sarahrichardsondesign.com) has been in operation since 1998 and specializes in servicing residential clients in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The work created by Sarah and her team is regularly featured in design publications on both sides of the border (Chatelaine, House and Home, Style at Home, Country Living, HGTV Magazine, Lonny, Renovation Style, Kitchens and Baths, and Good Housekeeping).

Sarah is partnered with top tier international brands to deliver stylish products bearing the Sarah Richardson label to consumers. In 2013, Kravet Fabrics launched the Sarah Richardson fabric collection, available worldwide through Kravet showrooms and their distributors. Sarah has two partnerships for paper products including gift cards, stationery, gift wrap, note cards, journals and calendars with Hallmark and Acco, and will be expanding her offering of home office products in 2016. In 2015, Sarah expanded her product offering and launched her own collection of home textiles, including bedding, accent pillows and kitchen linens.

Sarah is the author of two bestselling books for international powerhouse publisher, Simon & Schuster. Sarah Style was published in November 2014 and At Home: Sarah Style was published in November 2015. In addition to being an author, she is also the Contributing Design Editor for Good Housekeeping Magazine for Hearst Corporation.

Sarah has received numerous awards to recognize her creativity and design accomplishments. She has received the Caldwell Partners Top 40 Under 40™ award, a Gemini Award for Best Host in a Lifestyle Program, The University of Western Ontario’s Young Alumni Award, the Havergal College Old Girls Hall of Distinction Award, and the Communicator Awards Gold Award of Excellence. Sarah is in demand as a keynote speaker on style and design for trade shows and events across North America.

Sarah holds a BA in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario (1993).
